He started out strong and healthy, standing within minutes and drinking more milk than any kid I've ever seen. In fact, I worried about it at the time. Next morning he and his sister Maya had both crashed. We cared for them right away, got them to the vet, and looked after them round the clock for two days. Maya pulled through but Marmaduke never recovered. He died in my lap in the wee hours after two long days of constant nursing. I will always wonder what he'd have been like if he'd survived.
